Curious about the history of Valentine's Day? Though there are many theories as to the origin of the holiday, Valentine's Day has been celebrated since long before greeting card companies began creating their own special days gift-giving occasions ("Hallmark Holidays"). To learn more about the history of Valentine's day, check out the History Channel's Valentine's Day page containing the three most widely-accepted origin tales (Saint Valentine was a priest who was executed for marrying soldiers to their sweethearts, he was a priest who saved Christians from Roman prisons, or he was a prisoner who sent love letters to the woman who visited him during his confinement) and related articles and videos.

Our 1st attempt at hosting a Dinner and a Movie was a big success! We had 45 attendees enjoying fine Italian cuisine from Marvasos such as Cherry Chicken Farfalle and Chicken Marsala. Eat Pray Love was an ideal movie pairing for a lovely night. Check us out next month when the mind-bending action heats up with Best Picture-nominee, Inception, with food catered by Westland's own, Alexander the Great BBQ. Tickets ($10/each) will go on sale for that program on Sunday, January 30th.
The library catalog will be unavailable on Monday, January 31 while an upgrade will be taking place. This means patrons will be unable to search the catalog, renew or request items or check their account. The catalog should be available Tuesday, February 1.
The library will be closed Monday, January 31, 2011 for a staff in-service day. The library will reopen Tuesday, February 1 at 9 am.
