The American Red Cross will be at the Library Thursday, December 20 from 10 am-4 pm for a blood drive. To make an appointment log onto www.redcrossblood.org and enter Sponsor code: wplccp or call 800-RED-CROSS. Hurricane Sandy has affected all blood banks so there is a high demand for donors. Everyone who donates in December is eligible to win a $500 VISA gift card from the Red Cross. Individuals 17 or over (16 with permission slip) can donate.
Tonight's Library Board of Trustees meeting has been canceled. The next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, December 12, at 7 pm in the Library.
Thanksgiving Holiday Hours will be as follows:
The library will close at 5 pm on Wednesday, November 21
The library will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23
We will re-open at 9 am on Saturday, November 24.

The Westland Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, November 13th in honor of Veterans Day and the millions who have served our country. We will re-open on Wednesday, November 14th at 9 a.m.
Through the month of November the library's Teen Advisory Board is partnering with the Westland Goodfellows for a Toy and Food collection drive. Donated items will be given to Westland families who have applied for Christmas assistance this year through the Westland Goodfellows.
We are looking to collect new toys, games, hats, gloves and scarves as well as non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pastas and rice, cereal, peanut butter, etc.
Please bring items you wish to donate to the library and place them in the appropriate donation box. Donation boxes are located in the library lobby outside the meeting rooms.
If you are interested in receiving assistance, the deadline for application is November 28. Click here for an application.
On Saturday, November 3rd, the Westland Public Library will be hosting 5 different gaming events for International Games Day @ your library. Join us between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to try your hand at board games, video games, card games and active games. Bring your friends and/or family for a fun day. It's Election Time in the Children's Department! Kids can select a book from our cubbies under the canopy and complete a ballot choosing their favorite book series. Candidates include Clifford, Frog & Toad, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and more. Winners will be posted after Election Day, November 6.
