"There is No Song" by Jael Gardner, 10th Grade
She had her strings pulled taut
Hoping that just maybe, they were in tune.
Music was a journey
Beauty was a destination
She just had to find the song.
It was more than learning the notes,
Than finding the chords,
Than strumming her heart away.
She just had to find the song.
Her pale fingers danced across
Sheets of music, lists of songs,
Things she was used to.
She just had to find the song.
Every song she played
Meant nothing, felt nothing,
Was nothing.
She just had to find the song.
But then one day, she put down
The guitar and realized,
There is no song.
