Get Ready to Vote!

Today is National Voter Registration Day! To celebrate, we've added a new Voter Information section to our library homepage. 

Register to vote by October 9 to vote in the election on November 6. Register with the City Clerk

On Monday, October 15 at 6:30 pm, we will be hosting the League of Woman Voters of NW Wayne County for a non-partisan presentation of the Pros and Cons of each statewide ballot proposal. Please join us to learn more about Michigan's upcoming ballot proposals:

  • Proposal 18-1: Legalization of Marijuana
  • Proposal 18-2: Redistricting Reform 
  • Proposal 18-3: Voting Reforms

Banned Books Week

Happy Banned Books Week! Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information.

This year, we will be celebrating with a special presentation on Banned Books: Comic Book Censorship in the 1950s. Please join us to welcome local comic book enthusiast and collector John Lay on Tuesday, September 25 at 7:00 pm as he discusses comic book censorship and brings a selection of comic books from that era.

History of Eloise Program Video

WLND's video recording of our History of Eloise program is now available on YouTube! Jo Johnson and Marlene McGee, two local historians, share the real story surrounding the Eloise Hospital and grounds in this standing room only presentation held at the Westland Public Library. WLND's video includes historical images and a Q&A session following the presentation.

Caregiver Inspirations

On Wednesday, September 19 at 6:00 pm, please join us to welcome Ms. Cecelia Salamone as she presents information to those who are involved in the loving acts of caregiving. Caregiving is a journey and Ms. Salamone is here to assist with that process. Many topics will be covered and there will be time for questions and answers.
